I think what puts this movie above the average romcom/wattpad adaptation is that the conflict doesn't feel artificial. What push themain characters appart are the very logical setbacks that would arise from their situation, the age difference, the fact that famous people have no privacy, the teenage daughter, the douchey ex-husband, etc. It isn't groundbreaking conflict or high-stakes but it doesn't feel forced in the way the relationship dramas in _The Kissing Booth_ and Co. often are

I guess the moms love this movie.. I jst can't with the age gap (i don't like the other way round too) even with good looking actors. It gives me the ick like Aaron & his wife or jen aniston & kevin costner in rumor has it. I think i'll go and watch my brother's favorite film "The Rebound" with Catherine Zeta Jones which had better story than this 😍 Also Anne Hathaway need to do a Princess Diary sequel with Chris Pine ASAP. The most difficult thing about this movie. You have this acting juggernaut in Ann Hathaway. Then Everyone else around her is D list Hallmark channel level bad. They’re awful acting sticks out more. Since Ann is so good. They should have at least found an A lister to play the boyfriend.

I don't think you can blame patriarchal expectations about men and women for Twilight, the man is the project in that series to fulfill a female fantasy, not a male fantasy. Contrapoints did a whole multi-hour breakdown of it that I think was pretty good. To play devils advocate for the MPDG disappearing at the end of the story it strikes me that they don't serve the same narrative purpose as say, Edward from Twilight. Their narrative purpose is to force change in the life of the male lead whose stuck in place. The MPDG knocks the male lead free of his rut so that he can get on with a better life, she's a medicine for his condition, not something he'd be healthy taking every day. Her description as a magical forest creature isn't inaccurate; the MPDG is as fantastical as Narnia; she's a momentary radical change of circumstance to give the hopeless boy a chance to learn and grow when he was stalemated and out of moves before.

Did anyone else notice that Evangeline Lily is in this movie? I just watched it a month ago and gasped when I realized that Evangeline is one of the cops taking Gordo when Isabella is at the airport. It's even in the clip on this video. I looked it up and confirmed.
